event wrap : CATWALK theatre

March 12th 2010 07:43
Through the Chambord and bubbles, CATWALK Theatre introduced itself as a theatrical fashion concept and had its audience watching in awe

OC Communications and Events presented CATWALK Theatre on Tuesday evening, kicking off the inaugural L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival in true style.

Supported by Fed Square and Beer Deluxe, the catwalk was surrounded by geometrical steel opening up to the stormy night and reflecting a halo of pink lights. CIRCANICA contortionist, Jessica, welcomed the audience with sensual twists and turns and Jason Coleman’s dancers showered us in feathers.

It was a showcase of accessories and fashion, with some of Melbourne’s newest designers making their mark on the fashion-scene including Made In Donald, Ever Layne, Justine Davis, Eva Q Design and Daniela Orlando. Models masqueraded down the catwalk in exotic headwear courtesy of Metal Couture (the label has previously collaborated with the likes of Marilyn Manson and the late Alexander McQueen), slinky lingerie by Fauve, Sally Jones and swimwear by Lisa Maree. Paula Kyle Walden supplied bespoke jewellery while Nikolina Concepts and Alexandra Harper dressed the models in fine millinery.

CATWALK Theatre was superbly planned and proudly sponsored by Bob Stillwell MINI, Fashion TV Australia, Siren and X&Y Mag. My only critique were the wobbles on stage, which was a distraction from the underlying fashion-focus... in future I’d definitely recommend a model casting! Alas the show was executed on time, pulled a massive crowd, tremendous support and top VIP Gift Bags! Thanks to APL Photography for the images

FLR

February 8th 2010 02:38
First Light Racing provides buyers, investors and racing-enthusiasts the opportunity to own their very own race horse, in shares. A brilliant idea for race-goers or a group of friends to partake in race-day and trackside events...

Two of my old pals, Tim and John recently started their horse trading business, First Light Racing. Last month, FLR purchased their first 3 yearlings. "Jet Spur" was among them, pictured below, her parents were both successful sprinters. The kids loved her chestnut colouring and we walked away with a 5% share in the horse. Another 12 - 18 months and we will be racing!

FLR hosts regular introduction days at the stables in Cranbourne, where you can meet the horses, trainer and the FLR crew for some professional advice

Visit First Light Racing for more information

Absolutely LOVE my Deco Mirror!

December 4th 2009 00:55
I was recently searching for a detailed deco Mirror to complete an interior job in South Yarra. With time running out and not much luck at my usual side street vintage stores (normally head to Fitzroy, Windsor, Richmond) I decided to Google for local Glaziers. Formerlly known as North Melbourne Glass, Glaziers.com were able to help with my specs and produce the most gorgeous mirror, as cheap as chips! If you're in need of glass repair or MIRRORS like mine, visit their website for deets. Definitely recommended if you're after quality - look at my gorgeous mirror below!

Towering high, The Nest

May 23rd 2009 09:31
Thanks to the guys at 5th Avenue, The Nest opened its doors to an entourage on Saturday night, stirring a commotion amongst the crew from the Beach Hotel. Just a few doors down on Vic Ave, the old Red Eagle appeared totally refurbished and glitzy new!

Spralled out over two levels currently, with a third coming soon, The Nest is that perfect venue for your exclusive mansion parties. With a sweeping black patent staircase, marble bar, dining room fit for Kings and Queens, an indoor/outdoor smokers lounge, there is space enough for 500 guests. Not to mention ornate fireplaces, chaise lounges, candle-lit corners and period features - can you tell I'm an interior design enthusiast

Melbourne International Rodeo

May 9th 2009 00:35
Would a room full of cowboys, somewhere in excess of 80 men, in chaps and floral shirts out of Texas circa 1978 turn you on? Do RM Williams belt buckles and worn leather jackets get you hot under your collar? Well it ran a very fine line with the mere adrenalin of watching the wide eyed farmers pull up their seats for the pre-game briefing. Boots and harnesses, I must have been the only soul not wearing an akubra back stage! Once the briefing was done and dusted, it was over to the arena, a sight i’d never before seen... the Rod Laver under almost half a metre of soft red dirt, the perfect battle ground for man and beast

Two hours later the crowd drew in the vicinity of 5,000 for the Melbourne International Rodeo and with the final chorus of the National Anthem ended the games had begun! Out from the gates leapt a vicious and somewhat enraged horse and on its back a rider – a cowboy no doubt. The scene etched in my mind as I watched with my jaw dropped, a character that resembled Gumby.... his body was whipped around the pen while his legs clung tightly to the horse’s middle, holding on for dear life! There were no yee-hah’s coming from the arena for those momentous 15 seconds, my heart just pounded away and at the end I couldn’t help but burst out with laughs
